What is Launch Jacking? Steps, Benefits and Drawbacks

Hey, Drew here and today I’m going to tell you all about Launch Jacking. I’ve used this strategy in the past and still do today. But what is it? How does it work? How do you do it?

All of this will be answered in the article so strap in. It’s a long one! You can also select the topics from the table of contents below for a quick answer.

What is Launch Jacking?

Launch jacking is a technique in affiliate marketing where you promote a product that is just about to launch. The idea is to capture organic traffic in the search engines even before the actual product launches. Typically this can be pretty easy especially if the product has a unique name.

This is because no other or very few pages have been created around it yet. So when someone does a search for that product, for example – “Product X review”, your page could come right up at the top of Google if there are no other pages with the same name.

Since you will register for the product’s affiliate program, if someone buys through your link – you will earn a commission. Even if you’re a beginner affiliate marketer, you can still launch jack and this guide will show you how.

Where to find Products to Launch Jack

Typically, Launch Jacking items are digital in nature. But you can still find physical products. This article will focus on digital products.

The two main websites that let you know when products are launching in the future are:

Muncheye.com

JVNotify Pro

That being said there are Launch Jacking items in almost every category – from health and fitness to pet products, gardening tools, and beyond. So there is definitely something for everyone when it comes to Launch Jacking. It doesn’t have to be digital in nature and you can also launch jack physical items.

Do Your Product Research First

Launch jacking can be a very profitable technique, but it’s important to do your research first to determine if the product is in a high-demand market. If it’s not, you could be wasting your time promoting a product that no one wants or needs.

In addition, you’ll want to make sure that you’re familiar with the product and the affiliate program before you start promoting it. This way, you’ll know what to say to potential buyers and you’ll be able to answer any questions they may have.

Finally, always remember to put your readers first. Don’t promote a product just because it will earn you a commission – only promote products that you believe in and that will benefit your audience.

Keep in mind that some of the bigger launches will have a lot more competition. If you are just starting out – I would recommend trying Launch Jacking on smaller products or those that may not have a lot of competition.

JV Prizes

JV stands for Joint Venture and is a term used in business when two or more parties agree to work together on a specific project. In the affiliate marketing world, this usually refers to two (or sometimes more) affiliates working together to promote a product.

JV’s are very much aware of affiliates wanting to Launch Jack their products and will create bonuses and prizes for the best Launch Jackers.

So, what’s in it for you?

Well, besides the glory of being a Launch Jacker extraordinaire – there are some pretty awesome prizes on offer. Usually, these will be something along the lines of an iPad or an iPhone, but I’ve seen bonuses go as high as $5000 cash. That’s a lot of money to be won just by promoting a product when it launches!

Keep in mind that the greater the prize, the greater the competition.

Who should NOT use Launch Jacking?

Launch jacking should not be used by people who are inexperienced in the field of online marketing. It is also not recommended for people who are not willing to put in the work required to make it a success.

Also, if your blog is brand new and your site doesn’t have much authority, (links pointing to your site) it might be hard to rank, especially up against bigger authority sites that launch jack.

Don’t let this discourage you though, because even if you don’t have a site yet, you can still have an online business Launch Jacking. Read my TIPS section to learn how.

Launch Jacking Step by Step Tutorial

Below is a step by step guide on how to have a successful launch jacking strategy.

Step 1: Look at Your Competition

First, you need to see who your competitors are so you know what sites Launch Jack. You will find similar players in your niche. If you are looking to launch jack digital marketing products, look for a product that was launched a few weeks or months back and do a search for that product on Google like this – “Product Name Review”.

See who is ranking in the top 3. Are they big and authoritative sites? Or, are they just cookie-cutter review sites that could be beaten?

Step 2: Select a Product That is Launching Soon

Next, you are going to look for a product to promote. You can find products on forums or Facebook groups but that takes too much time and it’s not a real solution. Instead, go on a product launch jacking site like Muncheye.com.

You are going to find all the products that will be launching within the next three months on platforms like Clickbank, WarriorPlus JvZoo, and others.

This is a great place to find high-quality digital products for new launches including their launch date.

Step 3: Apply for the Affiliate Program

Once you find a product that you wish to promote, you need to apply for the affiliate program.

This is where you will get all of the banners, text links, and other promotional materials that you will need to promote the product. It’s also a great place to start building a relationship with the product owner.

One thing to understand is that most will require you to apply for the affiliate program. They do this to avoid people spamming their product which will eventually tarnish their image.

They will want to know how you will promote their product. If you have a website, I suggest you tell them you will promote it to your email list. Even if you don’t have a list yet, they won’t know and it’s your foot in the door.

You could write something like this:

“Hi David, I will promote your product via my email list that I have built up over time. I will not send any spam and only my current audience will be made aware of your product.”

JV’s know that email is one of the best for converting because trust has been built up already. But don’t worry, if you don’t have an email list they aren’t going to know.

If you don’t have a website but you have a Youtube Channel, you could simply just say you’ll be making a video promoting their product.

If you have a list, you can apply for a product even on the day it launches. If you plan on ranking it on Google, you should only apply for products that are launching at least 2 weeks out. This will give you some time to rank in the search engines.

Step 4: Get Your Content Ready

The next step is to get your content ready with the right affiliate marketing strategy. By now you should have been approved by the vendor and have received some creatives to use for your product reviews.

If you have an email list already, chances are the vendor will have emails already pre-written to use for your email campaign. I do not advise copying and pasting these. This is because many others will do the same if you don’t want the same emails out there. Instead, use this as a guide to creating your own emails.

If you have a website, it’s time to write your product review blog post. The name of your page should be the name of the product fall by the word review.

For Example “Sneaker Sniper Review”. You should also include a tag line like “scam or legit”, “a complete guide” or something similar. This is going to give you the best chance to succeed by having these keywords in your URL and the name of the page.

As for content, some vendors will provide you with review access. If you don’t get this, you can also find a lot of information on the sales page. If you can’t find much information on the sales page and look at the vendor’s email campaigns. You can get a lot of golden nuggets just from those emails that you can use in your review.

You can also look at your competition if others have decided to launch Jack the same product.

Step 5: Promote Your Product

The next step is to promote your product. If you have created a web page, be sure to share this on as many social platforms as you have such as Facebook Twitter Pinterest Etc.

Having these social signals pointing to your site can help you rank better in the search engines. You could even create some web 2.0 pages that link to your review page where they will find your affiliate link.

If you have an email list, you could warm up your readers by letting them know about this great new product that is launching soon and point them to your page. You can even create a web form on that page where your readers can sign up to be notified when the product launches.

Tips for success with Launch Jacking Campaigns

Here are some tips for a successful to make launch jacking work.

Find ways to differentiate yourself from others who will be promoting the same product after it launches.

Make sure your SEO is on point

Talk with the vendor and ask for some additional keywords to target. Be sure to also ask for review access, even if it’s temporary until your review is written.

Get your review done first! The sooner your review is done, the sooner it will start ranking in Google.

Facebook Ads – If your site is not very authoritative and isn’t ranking well, you could use Facebook ads to drive traffic to your review page. Just make sure you target your audience properly in your advertising campaign.

Benefits of using Launch Jacking

The first benefit is how much money online you can make. Many affiliate marketers make their entire year’s worth of income in a single day by launch jacking the right product. Some successful launch jackers have made 6 figure paydays by rankining in the top 3 spots in Google.

That’s an extreme case though. The ones that rank very well also have huge email lists where most of the money is made. Combining these two is a slam-dunk in sales.

Even if you don’t have a huge email list and at least rank on the first page with your blog post – you WILL make some money, no doubt.

Another benefit is that it helps build trust with your audience. When you promote a product as an affiliate, many people are skeptical about whether or not the product is legitimate. Launch jacking removes this skepticism associating your name with a quality product.

It also helps to get your name out there. When you start ranking for big keywords, people will see your name and might want to check out what you have to offer. This can lead to more subscribers and customers in the future.

The next benefit is that if done correctly, this technique will open up other opportunities in affiliate marketing because people will start sharing your work with their lists which then opens doors into new relationships where products are offered on future launches.

As well as building a more loyal readership, another benefit is having access to early beta’s so you get to try out the latest software or maybe write reviews about them prior to its release date. This way only those who subscribed know about these deals first hand instead of everyone else doing a Google search trying to find the deal.

Keep in mind that some products will become very popular and could reach “evergreen” status. If people are still searching for the same product years later, you could cash in for a long time.

Drawbacks of Launch Jacking

There are, of course, some drawbacks. The main one is that if you are hoping to rank if your site does not have a lot of domain authority, it’s going to be difficult. Sites with a lot of domain authority will go for the big launches and easily outrank you, no matter how good your content is.

Another drawback is the amount of time it takes to put together a successful campaign. It can take quite some time to do all the research and get everything in place so you can hit the ground running when the product launches.

The product itself could be a dud. If interest in the product fizzles and dies just after a couple of weeks, all your hard work would have been for naught.

So, you are kind of at the mercy of the vendor. He/she is the one that needs to have a good product and a good marketing campaign so people will search for reviews on it and hopefully land on your page. Keep in mind is that you can’t launch jack every product that comes out. You need to carefully select products that are going to be successful and will generate a lot of interest from your audience.

Common Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

There are many mistakes that new launch jackers make. One of the most common is not doing enough research on the product. Doing too little research can lead to an unsuccessful campaign because the product isn’t what was expected, or what was promised.

Research the vendor and find previous products from them. Search for reviews on places like TrustPilot where people that have bought the product have left feedback. If the product sucks, chances are future products from this vendor may suck and you should simply avoid it.

Underestimating your competitors – Some of these folks have been doing launch jacking for a long time and know all the ins and outs. You too will learn over time but ones that have been in the game for a while will have an advantage.

Pigeon-holing your site. The mistake I made with my site was it started as a “review” site only, simply reviewing products. As Google made algorithm changes, my rankings suffered so I had to focus more on Top of the funnel content. Make sure your site has a mixed bag of content, not just reviews.

Launch Jacking on Youtube

If you don’t have a website or email list, you can launch jack on Youtube with a review video. There are many product review channels on Youtube and it’s a great way to launch jack a product. The only challenge here is that it would be best to have access to the actual product to do this successfully.

If you don’t have access to the product you could simply do a video review by recording the screen of the product’s homepage and just talking about it, focusing mostly on benefits, not features.

This is a great way for those that don’t want to show their face when making a Youtube video. Just be sure that you speak clearly and try not to make it longer than 5 minutes. Your goal was to get them to click on your affiliate link in the description box below your Youtube video.

Launch Jack with Web 2.0’s

I use to do this strategy even when I was launch jacking with my own site. I’ve noticed for quite some time that web 2.0’s like Medium.com which has a domain authority rating of 96, were ranking very well.

The problem here is that I think medium.com was catching on to this and they started banning pages like this. So although you can ride on the high authority of a web 2.0, you still run the risk of having it deleted.

If you don’t have a website, Youtube Channel, or email list yet. This could be an option to use. However, I don’t suggest it.

It can take some time and effort in the beginning but it pays off when customers start coming back to buy from you. You have plenty of options available so don’t limit yourself by thinking there is only one way to do this!

Launch jacking can be a very profitable strategy, but it’s not without its risks. By doing your research and taking the necessary precautions, you can avoid most of these risks and make a killing when the right product launches.
