Making a youtube intro can be tough.

You want it to be professional, but you also want it to represent your channel and its content accurately.

In this blog post, we will discuss some tips on how to make a youtube intro like a pro in 2024!

Why Make a YouTube Introduction Video?

Your own YouTube intro video is important for many reasons. The intro typically includes the name of the YouTube channel being watched and can also feature animation snippets and signature sounds.

It doesn't matter what kind of channel you have, whether it's a personal brand channel or one where you don't go on camera. YouTube intros are essential.

It can help new viewers understand what your channel is about and it can also help to set the tone for your content. A well-made intro video can also be a great way to show off your personality and make your channel more memorable.

A good intro is essential for all YouTube videos.

Requirements and Specifications for YouTube Intros

Before we get to the type of YouTube video intro you want, you have to make sure the basic details are correct. Having a thorough understanding of the technical requirements is important to make sure your video doesn’t get rejected.

First, check the file type and size. YouTube accepts most standard video formats like .MOV, .MPEG, .AVI, and more. As for file size, try to keep it under 128GB.

Next is the length of your intro video. While there is no specified time limit, we recommend keeping it short and sweet- between 5 to 30 seconds should be good!

Lastly, make sure the resolution is at least 720p so it looks sharp on HD screens.

What Makes a Great YouTube Introduction?

It can look simple, but there are a lot of important aspects to consider before preparing a good introduction.

Here are some key points:

  • The video should be short (between 5 to 30 seconds)
  • It should be high quality (at least 720p resolution)
  • It should feature the name of your channel
  • It can include animation snippets and signature sounds
  • It should be a good representation of your channel's overall content and tone

With that in mind, let’s move on to the different types of intros you can make!

Types of Intro Videos You Can Make

Now that we’ve gone over the technical requirements, let’s get into the fun part: what kind of intro videos you can make!

Animated Logos

One popular type of intro is an animated logo. This is a great option if you want something that’s short, sweet, and to the point. Plus, it can be easily customized to fit your brand identity.

You can get this created by using Canva, a great tool tool where you can not just create YouTube intro videos, but create graphics, edit photos and much more.

Here's a quick intro video I created with Canva. It took me 10 seconds to put this together. I even added some music. This is one of many different video templates you can use and they are all customizable.

An Animated YouTube intro are usually generic and don't set the tone for the video someone is about to watch.

They are really just branding for your channel. Youtube intro templates are included with a lot of different software and you simply just edit the one you like. If you want your intro video to give your viewers an idea of what's to come in your video, include a teaser clip from the video itself.

Live Action Footage

If you’re not into animation, another option is to use live-action footage.

You can film yourself or hire someone to do it for you. Just make sure the quality is high enough so it looks professional! If you want something in between, there are also plenty of video templates out there that combine both live-action and animation.

Video Footage with Text Overlay

Another popular type of intro is a video footage with text overlay. This is a great option if you want something that sets the tone for your channel and its content.

Hybrid Intro Video

A hybrid intro video is a mix of both an animated logo and video footage with text overlay. This type of intro is great if you want to include both your channel branding and a taste of what viewers can expect from your content.

Now that we’ve gone over the different types of intros, let’s move on to how you can make one!

How to Make a Video Intro for YouTube?

This obviously will depend on the type of intro video you want. If you just want a generic intro video that promotes the name of your channel, i'd go with an animated logo video. Since you only really need just one, I wouldn't invest in software for this. Get someone on Fiverr to do it for you.

If you want to create an intro video from scratch, you can use whatever software you are using now to edit your videos. If you don't have software, video editing software like Camtasia can be used.

If you are going this route, just get a mash-up of clips from your video. Use "cliffhangers" where you only show a part of the clip, where something is about to happen but your viewers won't see it. The idea here is to get them to watch the video so they won't miss what happens next.

Choosing the Right Music

No matter what type of intro video you choose, don’t forget about the music! The right track can make or break your video. It should be catchy and upbeat, but not too intrusive.

You can get free music from YouTube’s Audio Library or look for royalty-free tracks on sites like Epidemic Sound.

It’s also important to make sure the music is cleared for copyright so you don’t run into any legal issues down the road.

Create an Intro Without Watermarks

Many free YouTube intro maker software will include a watermark. This is how they get exposure to their brand but it's not ideal for your final product.

It's hard to find software that's free that does not include a watermark. Chances are, you won't need to make a lot of videos if you are just doing an animated logo video. So get someone to make this for you that already is using paid software that won't include a watermark.

Putting It All Together

Now that you know all the elements that go into making a great intro video, it’s time to put it all together! Start by brainstorming what kind of video you want and what message you want to communicate.

Once you have a clear idea, start putting together your footage or animation. If you’re using live-action footage, make sure to film in a well-lit area with minimal background noise.

Once you have all your footage, it’s time to edit! If you’re not familiar with video editing software, there are plenty of tutorials online that can help you get started. Just remember to keep it simple- you don’t want your intro to be too long or complicated.

Get Taught With a Good Course

There's plenty of YouTube courses out there that can teach you not only how to be successful on YouTube but can also teach you how to create the right intro. It's not entirely necessary to enroll in a course, but it can certainly help.

Conclusion

The whole purpose of an intro video is to hook your audience. So make sure it’s attention-grabbing and representative of the rest of your content. With a little effort, you can create an intro that will leave a lasting impression on your viewers.

The whole reason you're on YouTube is to make money, so you need to ensure you've got all your ducks in a row. There's a formula to follow for success, so there are no shortcuts. Make sure you cover everything to give you the best chance to make your channel thrive.

Now that you know how to make an intro like a pro, what are you waiting for? Get out there and start creating!
