How to Become a Successful YouTuber in 13 Steps

Do you want to become a successful YouTuber? It's a great way to make money, have creative control over your content, and build a brand for yourself. But it's not as easy as just hitting record and uploading the video.

There are many different types of channels and you need to pick the right one for you. There's also a lot of work that you'll have to put in with some investment and processes that you'll need to follow.

In this blog post, we will discuss what you need to become an established Youtuber. Here are the 13 steps.

How to Become a Successful Youtuber - 13 Steps

It doesn't matter if you want to do vlog style videos, unboxing videos, or even videos without going on camera, there is still the same formula that you must follow to be a successful Youtuber. Here are the 13 steps involved:

1. Ask Yourself Why You're Doing This

Do you want to be a YouTuber because you've seen how people are making a lot of money on YouTube?

If it's just for the money, this is the wrong approach. To be successful, you need to like what you're doing and have a genuine passion for it.

It's only when you truly enjoy the content you're creating that you'll be able to build a successful channel. If your heart isn't in it, your viewers will be able to tell and they won't come back for more.

2. Pick Your Niche For Your Channel

As a YouTuber, you need to identify your niche.

A niche is a specific topic area that you will focus on with your channel. For example, if you are passionate about cars, you could create a channel focused on car reviews.

Alternatively, if you are interested in fashion, you could create a channel dedicated to fashion tips and tricks.

By picking a niche, you will be able to more easily target your content and grow a loyal following of viewers who are interested in your particular area of expertise.

In addition, by focusing on a specific topic, you will be able to produce more high-quality content that will keep viewers coming back for more.

3. Understand Who Your Audience is

One of the first steps in creating a successful YouTube channel is understanding your audience.

What are their interests? What kind of content are they looking for? How will your channel appeal to them?

You can start creating content that appeals to your ideal audience by understanding who they are and the needs of their situation.

This may include videos on topics they're interested in, tutorials on how to do something they want to learn, or even just entertaining videos that will make them laugh.

Keep in mind that your goal is to create content that your audience will enjoy and appreciate, so don't be afraid to experiment until you find the right formula.

With a little trial and error, you'll be on your way to creating a YouTube channel that your audience will love.

4. Analyze Your Competition

As a YouTuber, it's important to be aware of the competition and analyze what they're doing well, and what they're doing wrong with their YouTube videos. This can help you brainstorm content ideas, how to produce them, and how to market them. There are a few key things to look at when analyzing your competition:

  • Content quality: Is their content high quality? How do they produce their videos? What type of editing do they use?
  • Content topics: What topics do they cover? Are there any topics that they don't cover that you could fill-in?
  • Audience Engagement: How engaged are their viewers? Do they have a lot of comments and likes? Are their videos shared a lot?

Successful YouTubers don't just hit record and upload their videos. They put a lot of thought and effort into every aspect of their channel.

5. Create Your Google Account

You can use a Google account to sign in to YouTube, Gmail, and other Google products. If you don't have a Google account yet, it only takes a few minutes to create one.

Here are the steps:

  1. Go to Google.com
  2. Click on "create and account"
  3. The signup form will show
  4. Review the Terms of Service from Google, click the box then click next
  5. The Create your profile page will show. You can add a photo or skip this step.
  6. You're done! Your account is created.

6. Set up Your YouTube Account

Now that you've got a Google account set up, here's how to finish setting up your YouTube account:

First, go to www.youtube.com and click "Create Account" in the top right-hand corner. You'll be prompted to sign in with your Google account.

7. Create Your YouTube Channel

Next, you'll need to choose a username for your YouTube channel. Your username can be anything you want but keep in mind that it's permanent, so choose carefully! Once you've chosen a username, you'll be asked to verify your Humanity by entering a CAPTCHA code.

8. Customize Your Channel

To customize your channel, click on the About tab in the top right-hand corner. Here, you can:

  • Add a description of your channel and even links to your website or social media accounts
  • upload a channel icon and banner image. These images are important because they will be the first thing people see when they visit your channel, so make sure they're high quality and represent your brand well
  • Include contact information
  • Use consistent branding throughout your channel

All successful Youtube Channels follow the above format regardless of the niche.

Here is an example of a channel that had phenomenal growth in its first year. CB Media has 414K Subs at the time of this writing and keeps growing. You can see how everything remains consistent and you know automatically that he's in the motorsports niche.

9. Create and Upload Your First 10 YouTube Videos

You should create a minimum of 10 videos when you first start. You should upload all these videos at a time but initially mark them as unlisted. You'll need video editing software to polish up your videos. Editing videos does take some skill, but there are normally tutorials on how to do this depending on the software you have.

Youtube has a feature where you can link your videos together at the end. If you only upload one video you will be able to do this. You should link three videos together and then marks them as public so they can be instantly viewed. This way, viewers will be able to see more of your content without just seeing one active video on your channel.

You could potentially do all 10 or even more at once. But don’t ever have just one video on your channel because people who look to see what you’ve got and if you hardly have any content they will be reluctant to join.

10. Analyze Data With Youtube Analytics

Once you have your first 10 videos (or more) online for a while, you will then analyze your data with Youtube Analytics.

You can find this data by clicking on the "Creator Studio" button in the top right-hand corner, then click on "Analytics."

This is important because you will want to know things like:

  • How long people are watching your videos
  • What parts of your YouTube video are being rewatched or skipped over
  • Where your viewers are coming from (e.g., YouTube search, YouTube suggested videos, social media)

All of this information will help you better understand what type of content your audience wants to see and how you can improve your videos.

11. Engage With Your Audience

If you're looking to engage with your YouTube audience, the best place to start is by being active in the comments section.

Respond to comments on your videos, and take the time to read and respond to comments on other people's videos as well. Commenting shows that you're interested in what other people have to say, and it also allows you to start building relationships with other members of the YouTube community.

In addition to interacting in the comments section, you can also engage with your audience by creating videos that address their questions and concerns. If you regularly receive the same questions from viewers, make a video that addresses those questions directly.

If there are topics that your audience is passionate about, consider making videos that discuss those topics in depth.

By engaging with your audience, you'll not only build relationships, but you'll also get valuable feedback that can help you improve your channel.

12. Promote Your Channel

There are a number of options available to promote Your Youtube Channel.

Once you have a few videos uploaded, you can start promoting your channel through social media and online communities.

You can also use paid advertising to reach a wider audience. And finally, you can consider partnering with other YouTubers who have a similar audience to yours.

By taking advantage of all these promotion techniques, you'll be able to get more views and subscribers on your YouTube channel.

13. Keep Producing What Works

Even if you have a small following on YouTube, it is important to keep producing video content that is working. Why? Because you never know when your channel will start to take off. And, it's what the YouTube algorithm wants.

If you suddenly get a lot of new subscribers, you want to have a backlog of content that they can watch. This will keep them engaged and help you grow your channel even more.

In addition, producing new videos will keep your existing subscribers coming back for more. So even if it feels like you're stuck in a rut, keep producing content and you may just find that your YouTube channel takes off. This is how you will

Consider a YouTube Course for Additional Training

All of the tips above are definitely going to help your channel grow. However, some people might want a more detailed step by step approach in the form of training. If this is you, check out my article titled "Best YouTube Courses".

You'll find a course that is not only created by successful YouTubers (they walk the walk) but I have selected them also to include everybody. Not everyone wants to be on camera while others do, so the best courses for those kind of categories are included too.

It's not essential for success to get a course, but it's definitely going to help you achieve success much quicker. Consider it.
