Tanner Planes: Next Gen Ecom And Zero to One Thousand

Today we’re going to look at Tanner Planes, an 18 year old Youtuber that talks the e-commerce game, provides tips on his channel and has also came up with a couple of courses.

For someone this young, you have to ask yourself if he delivers original, new training or just rehashed from other e-commerce guru’s courses? Or has he really achieved so much on his own in such a short period of time?

He’s a good marketer no doubt, with his flashy cars (maybe rented?) and promises of making a large sum of money in a short period of time.  I’m very weary of people like this especially those that at such a young age and with very little experience.

If he’s doing so well in e-commerce why not just stick to that and build his business rather than creating a course.  In this case, two courses.  There’s nothing wrong with course creation, however I find the legitimate ones are from marketers that have a lot of experience, made a lot of money and now want to start another business in the education field.  When this happens too quick I seriously doubt the altruistic intentions of that individual.

Perhaps Tanner does feel the need to give back so quick or maybe he’s just in it for the game.  Let’s find out by looking at his two courses to see what he’s got in store for you and if you should part with your money.  Perhaps there’s a better option which I will provide at the end if I see fit.

Zero To One Thousand Review

This is Tanner’s first course and I believe it is still available.  It’s outdated so I suggest you don’t purchase it.  The cost of this course is $297 and it claims to show you how you can make 0 to 1000 dollars a day in just a week.

In the course, Tanner tells you to follow his instructions to a T, by getting you to install the apps he suggests, with strategies he uses and how he does his advertising.  With this step-by-step blueprint he claims you should be making $1000 a day.  Remember, whenever an eCom guru talks money, it’s always gross sales.  Any screenshots you may have seen on his sales page is not profit.

The course has four modules listed below:

  • Introduction
  • Zero to 1000 Plan
  • Apps Explained
  • Bonus Videos

The training in this course focuses on Aliexpress.  You’re going to learn how to import products to your store and to create descriptions that convert according to him.

You’re also going to learn how to set up your Shopify store with all the settings that he likes to use.  I found this to be pretty standard and nothing that would set you apart from others.

As far as themes go, Tanner does make a suggestion for a free theme however if you are getting into the drop shipping business you should consider a premium theme.  Take a look at some of the best themes for an e-commerce site here.

Apps He Uses

Tanner uses 4 main apps which are – Oberlo, Consistent Cart, Privy & Sales Pop.

Bonuses

Included in the bonus section is the Facebook mastermind group.  I would necessarily call this a bonus because it should be included anyway.

Apparently this section is updated frequently but with his new course out I seriously doubt any additions are being made.  There’s no reason to pick this up but I thought I would include a quick review of his old course for your reference.

Next Generation Ecommerce Review

Tanner’s new course called the Next Generation Ecommerce, has a new twist and a new headline.  This time he claims it's his best course yet and will help you to create a successful drop shipping store from nothing.

The course according to Tanner, will show you his own strategies, methods and apps that he uses with his own stores.  If you follow his blueprint you’ll be able to succeed online just like him as he claims.

The cost of the course is $497 and it is available on the Teachables platform.  It doesn’t matter which device you use, whether it’s mobile, tablet, notebook or desktop, you’ll be able to view the contents easily without any problems.

If we compare Tanner’s two courses, his latest one has a lot more content than its predecessor.  However, videos are rather short and at maximum 10 minutes.

What are the course modules?

  • Mindset
  • The Basics
  • Product Research
  • Product Descriptions
  • Shopify Apps
  • Backend Marketing w/ Parik Basnet
  • Branding
  • Pre Launch
  • Instagram Influencers
  • Facebook Ads
  • Scaling Your Store
  • Facebook Ads & Product Research
  • Mastering eCommerce
  • Untraditional eCom Marketing w/ Matt Faber
  • Maintaining & Automating Store
  • Frequently Asked Questions.

How does the content stack up?

The course starts off with a brief introduction with instruction on how to join the private group and some basics on dropshipping.

Getting into the course you going to learn the differences between a general and a niche type store, research for products using Instagram influencers and Facebook ads.  You’ll also learn how to spy on successful Shopify Stores using a tool.

You’re also going to learn how to create product collections and how to add products to your store.  Also covered is an example of a high converting product description which you can use to incorporate into your own ads.

You’ll also learn what apps you should be using on your store which hasn’t really changed much since his last course.  Truthfully you should ditch the apps and get a premium theme to avoid paying monthly fees.

You’ll also learn how to do email marketing.  Also taught is using Klaviyo which helps with conversions.  Tanner also has some guest speakers in the course and Parek Basnet has a section on emails and how to effectively use them.

You’ll also learn about branding, creating Logos, creating your social platforms and how to optimize store design.

There’s a section on Instagram influencers where this is the first form of advertising discussed.  Here you will learn more effective ad copy strategies for conversions and how to find the best influencers for your business.

Of course there’s a section on Facebook and Instagram Ads.  There’s five videos in this section that covers ad creation, finding and contacting influencers and how to negotiate the best price.  I didn’t see anything in relation to actually launching the ads.

For the Facebook ads section, Tanner has brought in Noah Brewer and Dennis White. These two guys are very young as well and both have an active Youtube channel. Apparently Noah has made $1.5 million online which as you know can’t exactly be proven, but oh well.

The training includes how to find winning products, how to test your products and analyze results, and also a section on scaling.

Other topics include takeaways like comparing images over videos, how to calculate your budgets, utilizing CBO campaigns and how to use increased budgets.

Hayden then teaches in the Mastering eCommerce section where you will learn how to set up your business and includes further marketing tactics and additional product research.

In the untraditional e-commerce marketing methods, you’re going to learn from Matt Faber who is a brand builder where he will show you how to create marketing grids with a software called Vyper, chatbot marketing and retargeting.

The course rounds out with how to automate your business, build a team to outsource your daily tasks and how to deal with a high revenue store.  You’ll need this section once and if your store becomes very profitable but you can just gloss over the training in this section if you wish.

Final Thoughts on Tanner’s Courses

His second course is clearly an improvement over the first.  It’s got a lot more content and having other trainers come in to the fold give it some different perspectives as well.

Where this course does fall short though is the lack of topics that you’ll find in other courses which I’m surprised considering the price tag of Next Generation Ecommerce.

Things like sales funnels, search engine optimization, Pinterest and other socials training and Google Ads & Google Shopping training - you won't get with this course.

With eCom Elites you’ll get everything found in Tanner's course but with a lot more content and a lot more additional training that is simply non existant. Ecom Elites is a complete course with over 200 videos of pure content with no BS or filler. You're got to learn a shit load, pardon my french 😀

If this has sparked an interest, I urge you to check out my eCom Elites review to see how this can benefit you and also save you some money because it’s also cheaper than Tanners course. Now that's a win-win!
