ChatGPT vs Jasper AI: What Are The Key Differences?

Hey there. Interested in knowing what the difference between Jasper and AI and ChatGPT is?

I'm a member of Jasper AI and since ChatGPT is free, I also signed up.

ChatGPT is free, (but now has a paid version as well) while Jasper is a paid service. (How to get 10,000 free words with Jasper)

So why pay for Jasper AI if ChatGPT is free? Well, there are some differences which I will explain in this article. I'll even tell you if it's worth it to pay for Jasper AI.

Let's jump in.

The Key Difference Between Jasper and ChatGPT

Jasper AI is mainly built for creating marketing content for almost any application and can also generate original images. ChatGPT is more of a multipurpose generative AI capable of handing a variety of tasks.

What is ChatGPT?

Chat GPT is a tool based on NLP (natural language processing) made by a company called OpenAI. This tool allows you to have conversations with it, just as if you were talking to a friend. Crazy, I know. Even Elon Musk said it was "scary good."

Chat GPT-3 stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3. It was built on top of GPT-3.5. It's a revolutionary language model that uses machine learning and deep learning to generate human-like content.

With an API powered by natural language processing technology, you can quickly create anything from a book to writing an ad, answer questions, do translations, and even write code.

What is ChatGPT Plus?

ChatGPT Plus is a subscription based plan. It costs $20 a month and gives you all the features of the free, basic plan but with extra benefits such as:

  • It's always available, unlike the free plan that shuts down when it's too busy
  • Must faster response and processing times
  • With a subscription, you'll get access to new features and improvments before free users

I have to say, that after using ChatGPT Plus, the $20 monthtly fee is so worth it. If you depend on speed and reliability, the small fee pays for itself and ends the frustration of having it go down a lot on the free plan.

Plus, getting priority access to what's new is pretty cool. You can also cancel anytime and go back to the free version if you wish.

What are the Features and Benefits of ChatGPT?

  • It's free to use - or you can sign up for ChatGPT Plus for $20/month
  • Ease of Use - Just type a question and get a fast answer
  • Dialogue Based - You can actually have a conversation with it
  • It can code - Ask it to write code for a particular application, and it will do it for you and can even debug.
  • Translation - it can translate languages
  • Explains - it can explain a complex issue in simple easy to understand language
  • Answer any query you throw at it
  • Solves math problems
  • Create blog posts, meta descriptions, title tags and more
  • Summarize any block of text
  • Give you ideas for content
  • Write copy for Facebook ads, Google ads and more

If you haven't seen it in action yet. Let me demonstrate. Let's have some fun. I will instruct ChatGPT to tell me how to write a blog post.

ChatGPT Demo

I gave ChatGPT the instruction - "list the steps to write a blog post". Here is the result:

What do you think about that output? This only took a few seconds and gave a pretty good outline. (I do the same test with Jasper below).

I even ran it through Copyscape to see if there was any plagiarism. No plagiarism here. It's a unique article and it's high quality content. Here's the proof:

A newer tool that can actually detect if content was written by AI is called Originality.ai

I suggest using this tool every time you create content using AI, regardless if it is with Jasper, ChatGPT or another AI platform. While Copyscape is good for detecting plagiarized content, Originality.ai can do that as well but goes one step further by detecting if the content was written by AI or not.

You can tweak the article until it has a passing grade. It's a must if you are using AI for content creation. To learn more, see my Originality.AI review

Now, let's compare ChatGPT with Jasper AI.

What is Jasper AI?

Remember that these are just a few features of Jasper. For a full rundown on how Jasper works, do check out my Jasper review.

What is Jasper Chat?

Jasper Chat is just one of the many features included in your JasperAI subscription.

Jasper Chat is the one tool within Jasper that competes with and is similar to ChatGPT.

To access Jasper Chat, you would go to your dashboard on the left and click "chat".

Now, let's do the same exercise that I did with ChatGPT but use Jasper instead. Here are the results:

Interestingly enough, Jasper provided a little less information, but the response was generally the same as with ChatGPT.

What's the Difference Between ChatGPT and Jasper?

There are a few main differences that separate ChatGPT from Jasper.

1. Cost

This is an obvious one. ChatGPT is free, Jasper is a paid service on a subscription basis.

Update: On February 10, 2023, ChatGPT revealed ChatGPT Plus which is a paid service at $20 a month. The service remains the same, but you get priority availability even when demand is high, it's faster than the free version and you'll get priority access to new features.

You can still use the free version but it won't always be available.

2. Jasper is Built for Business Use Cases

Jasper Chat provides businesses with essential tools for their marketing, sales, and other use cases - unlike its competitor, ChatGPT. However, both user interfaces are making Artificial Intelligence more approachable and available to people across all demographics.

Jasper is the ultimate combination of cutting-edge AI models, drawing from OpenAI and other models such as Neo X, T5, and Bloom. It uses all of these technologies to create a comprehensive suite of AI tools.

ChatGPT is focused more on content generation, whereas JasperAI is much more holistic. While ChatGPT does provide some functionality for coding, translation, and other features, it lags far behind what JasperAI can do in this regard.

Jasper AI is also faster and more efficient in generating results than ChatGPT due to its proprietary algorithm. This means you'll get your answers quicker and with higher accuracy.

3. Difference in Reliability

Jasper hardly goes down. I remember a couple of times it crapped out and I just refreshed the page and was back in business. However, I've seen ChatGPT go offline quite a bit lately.

The message on their end was they were upgrading their servers due to the demand as you can see from the above image.

You'll only get access to the free version of ChatGPT when the demand is low.

So, if you have a deadline to meet, or need it right away, there's a chance ChatGPT won't be available unless you spring for the paid version.

In short, Jasper has been created for business and marketing and is available 24/7 while ChatGPT can be considered a "toy" to play around with and is only available when demand is low (with the free version).

4. Security

Whether you are running a business or you're a solopreneur blogger, if security is a concern for you, listen up.

The default version of ChatGPT, your data is used to train the language model. As you can imagine, this could raise security concerns.

With Jasper, you eliminate that worry because it uses greater security for your data and prompts. Jasper is 100% compliant with SOC2 and GDPR. It also offers individuals and companies the convenience of SSO.

Furthermore, Jasper's data centers are located in the USA with a team of dedicated security professionals to ensure the highest standards of security.

5. On-Brand Outputs to Customize Your Content

ChatGPT's output tends to be generic without personality.

On the flipside, Jasper has the unique ability to adopt to your particular style of writing. You can do this by having it scan your website's content, or even ask it to write in a particular tone of voice, or have it mimic your favorite movie star's voice.

It's important to maintain consistency of voice across your brand. ChatGPT cannot do this, but Jasper AI sure can.

6. Diversity of Models

ChatGPT is made by OpenAI and works using their language tech. Jasper uses this tech too, but also adds stuff from other companies like Anthropic and Stability to make it even better.

Because it uses different types of tech, it's more reliable. If one part has a problem, Jasper quickly switches to another part so your work doesn't get messed up. This way, it can pick the best option for whatever you need.

7. User Experience

If we take a look at user experience, there's a HUGE difference between ChatGPT and Jasper.

ChatGPT has a pretty straightforward and simple user interface (I do like it!) but with Jasper there's a whole lot more - it's definitely way more complex yet easy to navigate once you're used to all the features. It did take me a while.

One unique thing about Jasper I like is the content management. Sure, ChatGPT stores all your outputs too based on the name of each document, but after a while it can get very convoluted.

With Jasper, you can store documents in different projects and even has a search feature to help you find files. If you're working with a team that has access to Jasper, the "filing system" Jasper has makes it a lot easier to find the docs you need. This ends up saving you a lot of time and frustration.

Another thing I like is Jasper's ability to integrate with with other SEO tools and plagiarism checkers like Surfer SEO and Grammarly

Is ChatGPT a Replacement For Jasper?

In its current state, no, ChatGPT is not a replacement for Jasper. Jasper was built to help business owners with a variety of different tools using the AI model.

While ChatGPT can do some of the things Jasper does, it doesn't have the same robustness or capabilities.

Which Has Better Support?

If you are stuck and you need support, Jasper wins hands-down here. With Jasper, I always got a response after sending them an email or using the chat option within 24 hours.

The last time I tried to contact ChatGPT support, it took 4 days to get a response. You can even see that they admit they typically respond within a week as you can see here.

Both Jasper and ChatGPT have support articles if you don't need help right away, but if you do, Jasper is much faster in responding.

How do the Facebook Support Groups Compare?

Both Jasper.ai and ChatGPT have a Facebook group. However, Jasper's FB group is a private group for members only. Currently there is just over 75K members.

ChatGPT also has a Facebook group but it's a public group and open to everyone. However, that is a downside because there's over 609,000 members at the time of this writing and there's a lot of "noise" in the group.

There's a lot of irrelevant posts like Elon Musk's take on AI, stuff about Microsoft, weird GIF's posted, and the occasional spam. I don't know how well the group is "policed" by OpenAI but it seems like a free for all.

The Jasper group is a lot more helpful because there's way less people and only relevant topics and questions are posted.

How Does Training Compare?

This is another area where Jasper wins. Jasper has a lot of training videos available and the best is the Bootcamp Training. Bootcamp teaches you everything you need to know about Jasper in video format.

With ChatGPT, they do have a Quickstart tutorial but it's all text based and doesn't cover as much info as Jasper does. To be fair, ChatGPT is not nearly as complex as Jasper due to all the templates Jasper has.

However, finding an answer to a problem is a little difficult with ChatGPT unless you contacted support (and wait a week for an answer). To give you an example, I didn't know how to create a new line in ChatGPT.

Every time I hit enter it would execute. I had to "Google" the question and found out from a random YouTube video. Answer to the mystery - you need to hit shift + enter to start a new line.

Jasper vs ChatGPT: What's Better?

When it comes to Jasper Vs ChatGPT and which one is better, the answer to this question depends on what you need it for.

If it's just for personal use, you don't need Jasper. ChatGPT will serve you well. ChatGPT Plus isn't a huge upgrade from the free version either, it's just faster and more reliable.

If you are a business owner, YouTuber, blogger, an eCom store owner, or even a mom-and-pop shop, Jasper is a much better choice over ChatGPT.

With its powerful suite of tools, Jasper can help you make money, end the stagnation, help you with creativity and grow your business faster than ever before.

  1. Isn’t Jasper using the same GPT3 model? It’s only differentiation is in how it is prompting GPT3 model for the specific use cases. Is there any technology differentiation?

    • Hi Richard, that’s interesting but I am not totally surprised. As I mentioned in this article Jasper is more suited for business owners, bloggers, etc. so that makes sense.
